Cancelled: Advanced Mountmaking: January 14th-17th, 2019
January 14, 2019 @ 8:30 am - January 17, 2019 @ 4:30 pm$1100
I’m afraid that due to an upcoming surgery on a damaged shoulder, I’m having to cancel this workshop. I hope there will be another opportunity for this format after things stabilize again. If this interests you, please get in touch and I’ll keep you posted on future workshops.
At the request of experienced mountmakers, we are offering a workshop in advanced problems in mountmaking. This four-day workshop will focus on working with difficult objects and situations while maintaining conservation standards. We will discuss the development and design of mount systems to facilitate installation and deinstallation. The use of machine tools such as the vertical milling machine and metal lathe will be introduced as well as the more common tools of the mountmaking shop.
This workshop is being limited to four participants instead of the usual six so that there can be more individual attention given to each member of the class. As such, I am asking each applicant to contact me with a short description of their mountmaking and shop experience and skills, as well as what they wish to focus on in terms of advanced skills and mountmaking issues. Inclusion in the class will be determined by how each participant fits with the group so that workshop focus can maintained for optimum instructional quality. This is the first time this class is being offered so curriculum and methods taught will be developed to best fit the group. I ask that application be made by the end of October, and notification of inclusion in the class will be given in early November.
The cost for this workshop will be $1000 plus a $100 materials fee. Payment will be due after notification.
