A “curated” set of objects will be selected for mounting in a defined space and exhibit design. Through this format\, the intention is to present the practical problems of mounting objects for safe installation and aesthetic display while maintaining appropriate levels of care and conservation. \n\n \nTemplating for mount. \n\n\n \nMask Mount in process \n\nThe workshop will explore the how and why of museum exhibit mountmaking with an emphasis on object safety and preventive conservation. This object centered approach will teach methods for analyzing objects for their condition and balance\, making templates for accurate mount fabrication\, and the construction of mounts in brass and steel\, plastics\, and other materials. Engineering concepts and their application to mountmaking and hands-on practice in metal forming\, silver brazing\, mechanical fastenings\, and other fabrication techniques will be integral to the workshop. \n\n \nWorkshop well underway. \nThis workshop is being presented at a cost of $1300 ($250/day + $50 materials fee).  There are also possible scholarship arrangements for participants with special circumstances. Please write jamie@mountmakingfocus.com to discuss this possibility. \n\n URL:https://mountmakingfocus.com/event/mountmaking-for-exhibits-january-27th-31st/ LOCATION:Mountmaking Focus Studio\, 3511 Interlake Ave N\, Seattle\, WA\, 98103\, United States CATEGORIES:Mountmaking Workshop,Preventive Conservation,Training Workshop ORGANIZER;CN="Jamie%20Hascall":MAILTO:info@mountmakingfocus.com END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20200224T083000 DTEND;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20200228T163000 DTSTAMP:20200119T185831 CREATED:20191114T200156Z LAST-MODIFIED:20191114T200156Z UID:602-1582533000-1582907400@mountmakingfocus.com SUMMARY:Mountmaking for Exhibits: February 24th-28th 2020 DESCRIPTION:This will be the third in our series of exhibit scenario based workshops. For each of these workshops\, we will be trying to tailor the “exhibit” to the collections interests of the participants. This also gives the opportunity for more or less experienced people to work with objects that match their skill level. \nThis five-day workshop will present the theoretical concepts and practical techniques of mountmaking for museum objects\, set within a framework of an actual exhibit display.
