Fundamentals of Mountmaking Workshop: March 13th-16th 2018
Mountmaking Focus Studio 3511 Interlake Ave N, Seattle, WA, United StatesThis four-day workshop explores the how and why of museum exhibit mountmaking with an emphasis on object safety and preventive conservation. The first two days we'll teach methods for analyzing objects for their condition and balance, making templates for accurate mount fabrication, and the construction of mounts in brass and other metals. Hands-on practice in metal forming, silver brazing, and mechanical fastenings will be integral to the workshop. Ian working at the vise. The third and fourth days will focus on working with plastics for mountmaking, including mount design considerations, fabrication, and finishing of mounts made from acrylic sheet, Vivak, and

Mountmaking Focus Studio 3511 Interlake Ave N, Seattle, WA, United StatesThis four-day workshop explores the how and why of museum exhibit mountmaking with an emphasis on object safety and preventive conservation. This object centered approach will teach methods for analyzing objects for their condition and balance, making templates for accurate mount fabrication, and the construction of mounts in brass and other metals. Engineering concepts and their application to mountmaking and hands-on practice in metal forming, silver brazing, and mechanical fastenings will be integral to the workshop. As the workshop progresses, we will focus on working with plastics and other alternative materials for mountmaking. We may also work with mounts for textiles
Mountmaking for Exhibits: December 9th-13th, 2019
Mountmaking Focus Studio 3511 Interlake Ave N, Seattle, WA, United StatesThis five-day workshop will present the theoretical concepts and practical techniques of mountmaking for museum objects, set within a framework of an actual exhibit display. A "curated" set of objects will be selected for mounting in a defined space and exhibit design. Through this format, the intention is to present the practical problems of mounting objects for safe installation and aesthetic display while maintaining appropriate levels of care and conservation. Mountmaking for Exhibits: February 24th-28th 2020
Mountmaking Focus Studio 3511 Interlake Ave N, Seattle, WA, United StatesThis will be the third in our series of exhibit scenario based workshops. For each of these workshops, we will be trying to tailor the "exhibit" to the collections interests of the participants. This also gives the opportunity for more or less experienced people to work with objects that match their skill level. Mountmaking for Exhibits: April 20th-24th, 2020
Mountmaking Focus Studio 3511 Interlake Ave N, Seattle, WA, United StatesThis will be another in our series of exhibit scenario based workshops. For each of these workshops, we tailor the “exhibit” to the collections interests of the participants. This gives the opportunity for persons from diverse museum types to work on appropriate materials, as well as for more or less experienced people to work with objects that match their skill level. We welcome more advanced professionals to participate to explore more difficult mountmaking challenges.
